Expert Ear Care Solutions
Your appointment will begin with an assessment of the ear canal using an otoscope (a special microscope). Â This is to establish the extent of wax build up and to check for infections or other potential problems. Â If required, earwax removal will proceed using one or a combination of the following techniques.

Microsuction
Microsuction, when performed by a trained professional, is a safe and effective form of earwax removal, particularly useful for people with dry or irritated ear canals, ear infections and previous perforations.Â
During the procedure a small tube will be carefully inserted into the air canal to gently suck out the wax. Using olive oil drops oral for a few days before to soften the wax makes it easier to remove. Micro suction is usually a painless procedure however it can be noisy and occasionally you may experience mild discomfort following the procedure from the suction tube touching the delicate skin of the ear canal.Â

Irrigation
Irrigation is a modern alternative to traditional syringing and is a safe, painless and effective procedure that many people find relaxing.Â
Warm water is pumped through a special nozzle into the air canal, breaking down and flushing out the wax. Â Olive oil drops or Earol can be used for a few days prior to your appointment to soften the wax to help with a quick and effective removal.Â

Manual Removal
For blockages near the entrance to the ear it may be most appropriate to use small specialist tools to gently remove the wax.
Common Questions About Earwax Removal

Does earwax removal hurt?Â
These procedures are generally painless although microsuction can be uncomfortably loud and it is not uncommon to experience temporary dizziness during earwax removal.
How long does earwax removal take?Â
It varies depending on how dry and impacted the wax but 10 is 30 to minutes per ear is about average.Â
Why do I feel dizzy during/after earwax removal?
With both procedures you may experience temporary dizziness, particularly when removing impacted wax from deep in the ear. This is caused by a sudden change of temperature or pressure as wax is cleared and will usually pass within a few minutes but may sometimes take few hours to settle.
How often will I need to see you?Â
This very much depends on the individual. Â For some it may be every couple of months and for others it may be years before they need another appointment.Â
What can I do to try and clear the blockage myself?Â
You may find using olive drop oil drops such as Earol (available in chemists and online) helpful but should never use cotton buds or any other implement as this can further compact the wax or potentially cause permanent damage.Â
Will earwax removal cure my tinnitus?Â
Tinnitus can be caused or worsened by an excess or impaction of earwax but it can also be an age related condition, a result of noise exposure, a side effect of some medications or a symptom of a medical condition. For this reason it is always recommended that if ear wax removal does not resolve the symptoms, a doctor should be consulted.

About me
I trained and started practicing as a ear wax removal specialist in October 2025 after many years running my own business focused on empowering elderly and vulnerable individuals to remain independent at home.
Â
During the past few years I recognised an increasing need for local and accessible accessible ear wax removal as this service was no longer offered by local doctors surgeries.
Â
Today I offer both appointments at my clinic at Mablethorpe and in the community and love meeting people and being able to make a difference to their quality of life, if only in a small, but significant, way.
